8 Ways Washington Could Really Help Small Business
The Republican National Convention in Tamp Florida ended last week and the Democrats started their national convention in Charlotte North Carolina yesterday. The Republicans chose small business in America as the main focal point of their argument for why they are the better party to side with in November. Naturally one will expect the Democrats to rebuttal this week with their own justification for why they are the only party that can save small businesses. We see both sides jockeying for the small business vote because it is a substantial one. The majority of people in this country either own a small business or work for someone who does and it is often argued that doing what is best for small business is what is best for the economy. That may be true but politicians on both sides of the aisle are famous for saying one thing and doing another. Indeed, both sides argue how they will boost small business in America but once elected often fail to deliver. TIME magazine continues with 8 actions Washington could actually move forward with that would benefit small business. They explain, “politicians in both parties claim to be supportive of small business, but frankly I don’t see it. The way I see it, if politicians really wanted to help small business, they’d do the following..”
- 1. Stop making ‘small business’ meaningless
- 2. Punish large companies that defect elsewhere
- 3. Be honest about ‘free trade’
- 4. Create a progressive business tax
- 5. Make corporate campaign contributions public
- 6. Legalize (and tax) the drug trade
- 7. Implement size-neutral health insurance
- 8. Educate more engineers
